Petunias II

I have always loved to have petunias in my yard. I remember sitting on the front steps on the house while the Great Aunts, Mom, and Grandma sat and shelled peas, shucked corn, or snapped beans fresh from the garden. Sometimes I would join in, but I was more concerned with playing with the wild cats on the farm. At the time I hated the smell of petunias, but she always had them planted at the bottom of the steps. I was so little, but I love those memories with Mom's family. Life was so simple then.

Petunias

always remind me of a great aunt
at a small, country farmhouse in Arkansas
where gardening, canning, and raising chickens
were a way of life and survival

pokeberry

pokeweed or pokeberry plant: phytolacca americana

details I see:
One leaf has been partially nibbled on by an insect, and one of the flower stems offers a shadow on a dewy leaf. One stem has white flowers turning to green berries.

out-take of the shadow of my son's hand-- a shadow touching a shadow

bottom: same stem from this morning with missing fruit eaten by birds--
the berries are poisonous to humans, but loved by birds

Dill and Ginkgo

Unfortunately for me my dill has grown lanky and turned to flower. The flower however is very beautiful and actually smells fresh when I brought it in the house. While sitting and reading I could smell dill and it made me happy. The fragrant flowers will soon turn to seed and I will plant them. The yellow of the flowers reminds me of the beautiful color the ginkgo leaves will be this fall.

Sweet Frangrance

I took this photo with our old Nikon Coolpix camera because the Canon Powershot went to visit the grandparents. The blooms were a couple of days old in the vase and were starting to wilt, but I like the reflection series in the night window. The blooms came from the shrub/tree in the photo below. I think it is a kind of honeysuckle tree, but I am not sure. It has a sweet fragrance made stronger by bringing blooms into the house. I would love to know what this is. It thrives on the corner of our yard underneath pines and next to a white dogwood.

Basil Trio

Ocimum Bacilicum:
Petso Pronto Basil,
Purple Ruffle Basil,
Sweet Basil,
with my maple (Acer Palmatum) in the background

In the front window ledge, I can smell the basil when I sew at the dining room table. Signing off for a few days of family time, sewing, knitting, walking, cooking, reading, and gardening . . . Happy Independence Day!
